Location in Charles Village + a private residence (TBA to registrants)
Class Description
Elements of Magic is a class that has been taught within the Reclaiming tradition of Witchcraft since 1980, when it was first offered by the iconic Starhawk and Diane Baker. Since then, it has been taught all over the world. Elements is a "core class" in Reclaiming style magic and offers insight into "why we do what we do" as well as an introduction (or refresher!) to magical practices. In this particular class, we will be framing the Elements of Magic - Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit - in the context of strengthening our magical practice within the places and spaces where we live.
This weekend intensive is an introduction to magic in the Reclaiming Tradition, an anarchist, ecofeminist, non-hierarchical strand of Witchcraft that was born in the California Bay Area in the early 1980s. With the five sacred elements as our guides, we will create and inhabit sacred space, build altars, learn how to sense and raise energy, explore techniques of trance journeying, join our voices together in chanting and toning, and try our hand at spellcrafting and ritual design.
We welcome both beginning students, and advanced students who want to deepen their experience of the sacred elements as worked in the Reclaiming tradition. We welcome all genders, all gender histories, all races, all ages and sexual orientations and all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity. (Principles of Unity) If you have questions about this, please contact Pansie at matthew.smith.pa@gmail.com
This class is a prerequisite to the other core Reclaiming classes such as Rites of Passage, Iron Pentacle, and Pearl Pentacle.

Weekend Facilitators
Ember (they/she)
I've been a practicing Pagan Witch for 20 years, and a Reclaiming Witch for almost half that time! I've been creating online content about modern Paganism and Witchcraft for 15 years now. My path is both spiritual and religious. My theatre arts background blends with my magic in a love of story-telling, symbolism, and creating ritual. I educate people about modern Paganism & Witchcraft both online (YouTube, Instagram, and Patreon @cutewitch772, or Ko-Fi @CaraMiaWitch) and in person. My personal spiritual work currently focuses on developing personal practice, and rebuilding my spiritual business work to a place that can sustain me in continuing to do my work in the world.
Gina (she/her)
Some people joke that they feel like they were born in the wrong decade, but for the longest time, Gina felt like she was born in the wrong Earthly form. She longed for the day where she would be led to the court of the Faerie Queen and granted wings. She could often be found looking for the babbling brook, or the break in the trees where the Fae would be. She checked her body for mermaid scales after summer days spent in the water and saw colors around her teachers and friends. Beng able to nurture and empathize from an early age, and feeling the vibrations around tree roots, reminded Gina that this knowledge of something more was still real, even when she didn’t sprout wings on her 13th birthday. It wasn’t until Gina began to recognize herself in books found in that oh, so wonderful corner of Barnes and Noble that she realized she had always been in the form of a witch.
Magic has since led Gina through practices that demand artistic expression, acts of rebellion, intense self-discovery, and the study of healing arts. Gina now knows her magic is sourced through pleasure of all kinds and, most importantly, through sharing it. Her favorite ways to gather her energies are through potent conversations, orgasm, play, hearth tending, and boot stompin’ good times.
In ritual, Gina leans into guiding people through mystery and encouraging expressions of self-love. With the help of her drum and the Baltimore community she calls home, Gina knows that each hum of energy made together is building toward collective liberation.
Pansie (they/him)
Pansie is a witch drawn to playing with the Fae and the magic of the hearth. Their magic is wrapped in a song that wells up from the core and feels connection to energy as an electric current of music, running against their skin. Called to the magic through a radical faerie retreat, they were a solitary practitioner until being lovingly embraced by the Baltimore Reclaiming community. Reclaiming brought structure and a strong community of support to their practice. You’ll often find Pansie with their spinning wheel, meditative but open to both jovial and heartfelt conversation.

The Elements of Magic - A Weekend Intensive
“Elements of Magic is an invitation, not just into the world of ritual, spellwork, healing, and celebration, but into your self, your true self—the one you were born into and have spent all this life yearning toward—the self you are becoming.”
— Elements of Magic: Reclaiming Earth, Air, Fire, Water & Spirit by Jane Meredith, Fio Gede Parma, et al.
The elements of air, fire, water, earth and spirit are the ever-present allies of the Witch, lending their wisdom, inspiration and power to her work. They anchor our work in the physical, embodied world, a reminder of the urgency of the challenges we face. They help us remember that “the earth is alive and all of life is sacred and interconnected.” (Reclaiming Principles of Unity) As we come into this remembering, we have the opportunity to redefine our relationship to the natural world-no matter what setting we find ourselves-and to become a fierce advocate for the wild-the wild found within, and the wild found without.
This is an invitation to begin that journey. This weekend intensive is an introduction to magic in the Reclaiming Tradition, an anarchist, ecofeminist, non-hierarchical strand of Witchcraft that was born in the California Bay Area in the early 1980’s. With the five sacred elements as our guides, we will create and inhabit sacred space, build altars, learn how to sense and raise energy, explore techniques of trance journeying, join our voices together in chanting and toning, and try our hand at spellcrafting and ritual design. As we connect to the elements of magic and a remembering of our more wild selves, we come into greater embodiment and ownership of our Witch-self, the one who bends and shapes the world into a place of greater justice and liberation.
In this workshop, we will

Teachers
Sparrow (It/They) was raised by the Blue Ridge Mountains in Appalachia on Cherokee Land and currently lives on Piscataway Land in so-called Silver Spring. A non binary queer witch, Sparrow’s magic centers the body, connection with beings both seen and unseen, and the power of a cackle. They are currently surviving capitalism as a bodyworker and spend their free time on trails with their pup. Sparrow came to Reclaiming in 2016 and has assisted in organizing Spiralheart Witchcamp for 7 years. They are excited to explore and be in relationship to the elements with you!
Jessica Dreamer (She/Her) grew up on 40 sweet and wild acres nestled along Maryland's coastal bays, lands of the Pocomoke-Assateague people. In that place her Witchcraft was born, closely partnered with the Spirits and Beings who, whether seen or unseen, were deeply felt as they received her with rich welcoming. A queer child of the brackish bays and salty, wild Ocean she honors her ties and obligations to the great blue crab, the eastern oyster and the wild ponies of Assateague. Today she finds magic in the cracked concrete and Ailanthus trees of Baltimore, land of the Piscataway, where she has been a member of Baltimore Reclaiming for over a decade, teaching since 2015. She loves to make music with this rowdy crew of witches.
